Page 15 - Cairns, Australia

Wednesday, March 7th, found us exploring Cairns, Australia in the northern Queensland.

We had signed up for a ship shore excursion. (above) On getting off the ship, the Australian government had agents with a dog to sniff our bags for food items. Everywhere in Australia we were not allowed to take any food from the ship to shore. (left) After the customs inspection, we boarded our bus and rode out to our destination -- passing by some interesting signs.
The sign says For those who believe the journey is as important as the destination. Our sister tour bus. Hey, my kind of a place! Getting ready to board a cable car.
Our excursion's main attraction was a ride on two separate cable cars to a rain forest; a national park. We rode the first gondola to its end, then walked down to the heart of the rain forest.
We saw a snake -- a poisoneous one yet! Then rode another cable car that took us over some waterfalls, and landed at another rain forest nature trail.
Lynda found another snake! A tourist shop That's a high of 91F - and the humidity!!! The city of Cairns had a huge outdoor public swimming pool right near the wharf (and the beach).
Even the pool had art displays. Lynda found a jewelry shop with reasonable prices. We had a little time to kill so we sat down for a glass of local wine -- yum!
