Our Trip to Europe
April 29 - June 26 2005

Page 25 - Helsinki (part 1, Porvoo)

On Wednesday morning, June 8th, we took a bus to Porvoo, an historic town about 50 km from Helsinki.  We begin our tour in the central square, then stopping in the Runeberg museum.  Johan Ludvig Runeberg is probably Finland's greatest -- and certainly most famous -- poet.

Statue of J. Runeberg. He was an avid hunter. ???
Touristy street. Riverside homes. Another tourist attraction.

We left Porvoo mid-afternoon and returned to Helsinki on our tour bus.  Immediately after unloading off the bus, we loaded up with a glass of wine :-)

Then we took a short, aimless walking tour on and around North Esplanade (Pohjois-esplanaadin katu).

Like in most European cities, Helsinki has statues!
And they have markets!  Here Lynda shops for gifts. While Pete has a glass
of water.
